The GTA Rehab Network is working with members to address the lack of adequate system capacity for specialized wheelchair seating services in the Greater Toronto Area. Together with representatives from Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, Sinai Health System/Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital, and Unity Health Toronto/Providence Healthcare, the Network is planning and scoping a demonstration project to expand specialized seating services at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital.

To inform this work, the Network has conducted an environmental scan of services outside the GTA and surveyed member organizations with inpatient rehab/CCC beds to better understand patient needs for both complex and non-complex seating. In addition, engagement with Ontario Health atHome has provided valuable insights on patient volumes and types of seating needs.

The planning group is currently exploring additional funding opportunities to support this important initiative, which aims to strengthen access to specialized seating and improve care across the region. For more information, please contact us directly.
