On May 9th, Best Practices Day (BPD) 2025 brought together rehabilitative professionals from across Canada for a full day of virtual education, collaboration, and dialogue on emerging issues in care.

The day opened with a thought-provoking keynote address from Scott Ovenden, Ontario Health’s Chief Regional Officer, Toronto and East. Titled “Reimagining Rehabilitation: Building a System to Better Support and Strengthen the Health of Ontarians,” his presentation highlighted opportunities to improve access, coordination, and outcomes across the system.

Closing keynote speaker Dorianne Sauvé, Health Policy Consultant and Past CEO, Ontario Physiotherapy Association, wrapped up the day’s events with “Looking down the road: Rehabilitation as a solution to health care system challenges.” Her insights were forward-looking and reinforced the vital role of rehabilitation in strengthening health care.

Throughout the day, participants also explored timely topics such as early recognition of delirium in geriatric rehab, in-home stroke rehabilitation, psychological therapies for people with Multiple Sclerosis, and evaluation of hospital-to-home transitions in post-acute and complex continuing care settings. The program offered valuable insights for clinicians, researchers, students, policy professionals, and health system leaders.

For the first time, this year’s conference attendance can be used towards Canadian College of Health Leaders (CHE) Maintenance of Certification credits — a welcome addition for those pursuing professional development goals.  Registered participants will also have access to a recording of the day’s presentations for their future reference; an email with more information will be sent to all participants in the days to come.

Thank you to all who attended and contributed to another successful event!
